Installation and settings for TTD Patch

For general information on how to use GRF files in TTDPatch, read the TTD Patch manual. The Japanese Landscape Set is available in a DOS version ("jplandd.grf") and a Windows version ("jplandw.grf"). Simply copy the grf file into the "newgrf" folder inside your TTD main folder and add the entry "newgrf/jpland[d/w].grf" (with the "d" or "w" depending on whether you are using the DOS or Windows version of TTD) to your "newgrf[w].cfg" file.

Installation and settings for Open TTD

For general information on how to use GRF files in OpenTTD, read the OpenTTD manual. If you have downloaded the Japanese Landscape Set from the Japan Set homepage, simply copy the grf file into the "data" folder inside your OpenTTD folder. Alternatively, you can use OpenTTD's online content service, as described here. To use the Japanese Landscape Set in a new game, you only have to add it under NewGRF Settings on the title screen.

If you have an older version of the Japanese Landscape Set installed, removing the old file and adding the new one will make all your old savegames use the new version. (OpenTTD will display a warning upon opening such savegames though).

GRF parameters

If the first parameter is set to 0, the rice fields will be deactivated and you will get the default graphics for fields. In TTDPatch, change the above entry in "newgrf[w].cfg" to "newgrf/jpsignals[d/w].grf 0". In OpenTTD, select the Japanese Signals GRF in the NewGRF settings window, click "Set parameters" and enter the value "0". Compatibility with other GRF files

The Japanese Landscape Set is designed to be used together with the other GRF files in the Japan Set listed above. Since it replaces most elements of the landscape graphics, it is obviously incompatible with other sets that change the same graphics. Using the Japanese Landscape Set together with such GRFs will likely cause more or less severe graphical inconsistencies, but will usually not affect gameplay.

Known bugs

The modern roads will replace the old style ones after 1950. However, this only happens if the game is reloaded or if the NewGRF settings are reset. This is due to current limitations in TTDPatch/OpenTTD. Please report any other bugs in the release thread.

Credits

The Japanese Landscape Set was developed by an international team of members of the Transport Tycoon Forums (administered by Owen Rudge) and includes some elements previously developed by others, in particular the old style roads taken from the Total Town Replacement Set. If you believe your work has been used and you are not properly credited, please post your concern in the development thread for immediate attention.
This set is entirely nonprofit, and permission is given to reproduce or redistribute it in its entirety according to the terms of the GNU Public Licence.
